This editorial explores the construction of the “perfect woman” through performative femininity and roleplay. Inspired by Cindy Sherman’s exploration of identity as performance, the project reflects on how femininity is often shaped by cultural expectations rather than lived reality.
Through two contrasting personas, identity becomes a mutable surface. One character embodies an idealized 60’s housewife, performing innocence through pastel aesthetics, blonde hair and rehearsed domesticity. The other adopts the role of a noir heroine, presenting a darker, more theatrical expression of femininity defined by mystery, eroticism and artifice. The act of changing wigs becomes a visible transformation, revealing femininity as something performed rather than innate.
By exaggerating these archetypes, the editorial questions the unattainable ideal of the “perfect woman” and highlights the character’s imperfections. This project explores the tension between authenticity, performance and the societal expectations imposed on female identity.
